The SureFire E1L is dependable as a steady source of daylight quality light. In photography the light can be used for doing White Balance editing.

I just received my new E1L Outdoorsman. This is number five in my Surefire collection. I acquired a Streamlight an Inova and a few others prior to my first Surefire. Upon receipt of my first Surefire, everything else paled by comparison.
The design, engineering and execution are innovative and flawless! Yes, they are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. The Surefire published lumen ratings are very conservative as the various lights are significantly brighter than those of other manufacturers with higher lumen ratings. Additionally, they are built like a tank. Several owners tell of driving over them in various vehicles with no visible damage or malfunction. The Surefire line is designed with the Military, first responders and other professional users in mind. As a result, any civilian will have the only flashlight he/she will ever need!

Most often what you hear is Surefire is too expensive, they are over engineered and the batteries are expensive and hard to find. If you agree with any of this, you whine too much and probably don't deserve this light. Otherwise, yes, its a Franklin +. Can anything you carry and depend on in whatever situation that may arise be over engineered? Buy the batts cheap by the box on the net and don't worry about it. In a crush, about any grocery/discount store carries the CR123s these days. Love this light.
